The Couple's Story
Bella and Hayden have been together for almost two years, but their story stretches back even further— we all grew up together, friends since elementary school. Photographing them felt so natural, like capturing two people who not only love each other but also truly enjoy being together. Their connection is playful, sweet, and effortless, which made this sunrise session all the more special.
The Location
We chose Assateague National Seashore for this shoot, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The beach was nearly empty that morning, with soft sand dunes stretching behind us and calm, gentle waves rolling in at our feet. Because it hadn’t stormed the night before, the water was warm and the beach itself was beautifully clean. Having such a serene setting really allowed us to focus on the couple and their interactions without distractions in the background.
The Morning Vibe
We started just as the sun came up, bathing everything in the most gorgeous golden light. The warmth of the sunrise paired with the ocean breeze created such a dreamy atmosphere— though the breeze definitely kept us on our toes! The wind was a slight challenge, but we worked with it to create movement and life in the photos instead of fighting against it. The combination of glowing light, crashing waves, and playful energy set the tone for the entire session.
Outfits & Styling
Bella looked stunning in a soft white dress that flowed beautifully with the wind and waves. It was simple yet elegant, a perfect choice for a beach session. Hayden kept things classic with khakis and a neutral-toned shirt that paired seamlessly with the natural tones of the sand and sea. Together, they looked timeless— like they had stepped right out of a coastal love story.
My Approach
Since Bella and Hayden both prefer more candid and natural moments, I leaned heavily into my documentary-style of photography. Instead of stiff posing, I gave them playful prompts: walking hand in hand, spinning, teasing each other, and plenty of movement along the shoreline. We even experimented with some intentional blur for a dreamy, in-the-moment feel. The two of them were down for anything I suggested, even when the prompts sounded a little silly at first, and that willingness gave us some of my favorite images of the day.
Favorite Moments
One of the funniest moments was Hayden’s determination to avoid the water. He not-so-gracefully dodged the waves almost the entire session until one caught him by surprise! Once his feet were wet though, he loosened up and leaned into it, which made for some sweet, candid shots with Bella. Their ability to goof around with each other throughout their session was perfect! My favorite part was capturing their genuine reactions to each other— whether it was laughter from a silly prompt, a quiet look as the sun rose, or the playful energy that comes so naturally to them. Every interaction highlighted just how well-matched they are as a couple. This session with Bella and Hayden reminded me exactly why I love photographing couples: it’s not just about pretty pictures, but about preserving real emotions and connections in a way that feels timeless. Between the golden sunrise, the sound of the waves, and the laughter we all shared, it was a session I’ll never forget.
